An Easy, Inexpensive DIY (Target Dollar Bin Score!)

A sweet and simple diy! It’s darling for Valentine’s Day but I know we will enjoy it year round, too!

I was so excited to surprise Olivia with this cutie yesterday. We saw this candy dish in the Target dollar bins and she loved it! Her grandparents have a gumball machine at their house (that originally lived in Chris’ grandparents’ bakery!) and she was so excited at the idea of adding one to her kitchen.

For $3 I figured this was worth trying to make a little more our style and we just love the way it turned out. It was sweet in red but it’s oh so perfect in pink, if you ask me!

I had intended to use spray paint for this but ran out shortly after I started {face to palm!} and ended up using acrylic paint from our stash instead. I think spray paint would have much much faster but it was nice using a brush to touch up the edges near the glass at the end. So I think either one would work well- whichever you have or would enjoy more.

Before starting, I cleaned the jar. Then I used painters tape around the glass where it meets the base and along the lid where it meets the insert.

I did two coats of light pink and it covered the red nicely. (Make sure you let the first coat dry completely before starting the next.) I did touch up a few spots around the base of the glass after removing the tape, and I also noticed I had gotten spray paint on the glass which I used lemon oil to remove. After the finishing touches were complete and all was dry I filled it with conversation hearts and tied a bow for fun. Voila! An easy little update.

Hopefully you can snag a gumball dish from your local store. I’ve linked the other supplies below.
